1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to commend Dorcas Mae Lepien Toenniges
4 Pearcy on the celebration of her fiftieth anniversary as
5 owner of Toenniges Jewelers, Inc.; and
6 WHEREAS, Toenniges Jewelers, Inc. is a downtown
7 Naperville icon; much of the success of the store can be
8 traced to the hard work and hands-on involvement of Dorcas
9 Toenniges Pearcy, both within the store and her community;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, Dorcas and Toenniges Jewelers were founding
12 members of Naperville's CAN/DO organization, an influential
13 group of individuals and businesses responsible for making
14 downtown Naperville a national symbol of success; and
15 WHEREAS, Earlier, Dorcas was an original member of a
16 group of business leaders who began meeting in the 1950's to
17 discuss ways to promote downtown activities; today's
18 respected Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, where Dorcas
19 has twice been elected to serve a term on the Board of
20 Directors, is a direct descendant of that early downtown
21 organization; and
22 WHEREAS, Dorcas' support of humanitarian causes begins in
23 Naperville, but her benevolence extends worldwide; "doing" is
24 an important part of her support; in the summer of 1997,
25 Dorcas traveled to Africa to help Heifer Project
26 International deliver sustenance-giving heifers to families
27 in Uganda and Kenya; she also helped Habitat for Humanity
28 build a home for a Ugandan family; and
29 WHEREAS, Her involvement at home includes commissioning
30 the creation of a limited edition Old Main Collectible
31 Christmas Ornament, with proceeds supporting the

1 reconstruction of that North Central College landmark; Dorcas
2 previously commissioned the design of a unique sterling
3 silver charm that is a replica of Naperville's historic
4 Century Memorial Chapel, with sale proceeds being shared with
5 the Naperville Heritage Society; and
6 WHEREAS, The opportunity to study music at North Central
7 College brought Dorcas to Naperville in 1943; to this day
8 music remains an important part of her life; for five years
9 she sang with the world renowned Chicago Symphony Chorus, and
10 two years ago she arranged, sang, and distributed hundreds of
11 cassettes of Psalm 118:24; and
12 WHEREAS, Dorcas Toenniges Pearcy sings the invocation at
13 local Rotary Club meetings; she was chosen Rotarian of the
14 Year in 1997 and even sang her acceptance speech when
15 presented with the prestigious Citibank Crystal Award for
16 business achievement and community activities in 1995; truly
17 Dorcas Toenniges Pearcy is a valued citizen within the City
18 of Naperville; and
19 WHEREAS, Dorcas Toenniges Pearcy will be aided in her
20 anniversary celebration by her two sons, Frederick D.
21 Toenniges and Jeffrey Pearcy; her daughter, Sandra Toenniges;
22 her six grandchildren, Frederick W. Toenniges, Alexandra
23 Lauren Toenniges, and Jennifer, Alan, Ryan, and Austin
24 Pearcy; and her great-grandchild, Larissa Mae Pearcy;
25 therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 congratulate Dorcas Toenniges Pearcy on the celebration of
29 her fiftieth anniversary as owner of Toenniges Jewelers,
30 Inc.; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
32 presented to Dorcas Toenniges Pearcy, along with our warmest
