1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Roy L.
4 Washington; and
5 WHEREAS, Roy Washington was born in a little town in
6 Illinois known as Carrier Mills on August 15, 1916; he was
7 the eldest brother of the late Mayor Harold Washington of
8 Chicago; and
9 WHEREAS, Roy Washington attended a country elementary
10 school in Carrier Mills where his Grandfather Professor
11 Garner was not only the headmaster but also his teacher; Roy
12 furthered his education at Roosevelt University; and
13 WHEREAS, Roy Washington worked for the government of Cook
14 County for twenty-one years, starting as a Probation Officer
15 in 1967, and retiring as an Investigator in 1988; and
16 WHEREAS, Roy Washington lived as a bachelor; he enlisted
17 in the Army Cavalry Division in 1943 and excelled to the rank
18 of Corporal until he was discharged in 1946; and
19 WHEREAS, Roy Washington had a passion for architecture
20 and thus became a draftsman; he designed the Harold
21 Washington Mausoleum, where he will be laid to rest next to
22 his brother, the late Mayor Harold Washington; and
23 WHEREAS, Roy Washington was also an aspiring jazz
24 musician, playing the bass in the Service with other members
25 of the band; and
26 WHEREAS, Roy Washington is survived by his five sisters:
27 Geneva Washington-Watson, Ernestine Price-Scott, Gwendolyn
28 Price, Elaine Price-Lake, and Patricia Price-Center; his
29 brother Ramon Price; and a great number of nieces, nephews,
30 and cousins; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 mourn and send our sincere condolences to the family of Roy
4 L. Washington; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Roy L. Washington.
