1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this House were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Frank Sinatra on Thursday, May 14, 1998; and
4 WHEREAS, Frank Sinatra was widely held to be the greatest
5 singer in American pop history; during a show business career
6 which began in the 1940s and spanned more than 50 years and
7 comprised recordings, films, television, nightclubs, and
8 concert halls, he was known as one of the most successful
9 entertainers of the 20th Century; and
10 WHEREAS, Francis Albert Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New
11 Jersey, on December 12, 1915; and
12 WHEREAS, He started his career in 1939, when he signed
13 with Harry James; six months later, he was signed by Tommy
14 Dorsey and sang with him until 1942; at the age of 27, he
15 made his first solo appearance at the Paramount Theater in
16 New York City; in 1944, he made a return engagement to the
17 Paramount when 30,000 fans formed a mob in Times Square; and
18 WHEREAS, Frank Sinatra appeared in 58 films, and won an
19 Academy Award as best supporting actor in 1953 for "From Here
20 to Eternity"; and
21 WHEREAS, Leader of the Rat Pack or Chairman of the Board
22 -- Frank Sinatra had many nicknames; he earned them all; and
23 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
24 and friends, especially his wife, Barbara, and his children,
25 Nancy, Frank, Jr., and Christina; and
26 WHEREAS, Whether he was singing or acting, Frank Sinatra
27 won the hearts of people around the world; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
30 note with sorrow and regret the death of Frank Sinatra and

1 extend our sincere condolences to his family and countless
2 friends; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
4 presented to the Sinatra family and the International Sinatra
5 Society.
