1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere sympathy to the
4 family of Hershi Turner, who passed away on June 11, 1998;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Hershi Nicole Turner was born in Chicago,
7 Illinois, on August 10, 1981; her parents are Gail and the
8 late Freddie J. Turner, Jr.; she was the only grandchild of
9 Mirdis and Johnny Graham; Hershi was baptized at St. Thaddeus
10 Catholic Church; she received her First Holy Communion and
11 Confirmation at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church; and
12 WHEREAS, Hershi attended St. Jude Elementary School where
13 she was a member of the band and played basketball as a part
14 of the St. Jude Flyers; she received special recognition for
15 creative writing and for her volunteer services; she was a
16 participant in local Brownie and Girl Scout troops; she was
17 an honor student at Seton Academy Preparatory High School
18 where she recently completed her junior year; while in high
19 school she was freshman class vice president, a member of the
20 Student Council, a member of the Spirit Team, and a member of
21 the Spanish National Honor Society; and
22 WHEREAS, Hershi attended "The Program" summer enrichment
23 program held at the University of Chicago, the Educational
24 Talent Search Program at South Suburban College, and the
25 Chicago Area Health and Medical Career Program at the
26 Illinois Institute of Technology; Hershi aspired to a career
27 as a physician; and
28 WHEREAS, Hershi was a member of the Center Aisle Players,
29 serving on the Social Committee; she was accepted to a 1998
30 summer honors program at Indiana State University; she was
31 awarded an outstanding Leadership award by the Vicareate
32 Deanery; she loved to travel and had visited Cancun, Spain,

1 and the Caribbean; and
2 WHEREAS, Hershi Turner is survived by her parents, Gail
3 and Andrew Williams; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny
4 Graham (Poppy and Gram); her grandmothers, Annabelle Turner
5 and Gennie Williams; her sister, Erica and her brother,
6 Andrew; her godmother, Charlene McLaughlin; her godfather,
7 Bradley Greene; her many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and
8 relatives; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 mourn, along with her family and friends, the death of Hershi
12 Nicole Turner; may they find peace and comfort in this time
13 of need; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Hershi Turner.
