1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 548
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 548 on page 1, by
3 replacing lines 1 and 2 with the following:
4 "AN ACT concerning vehicle registration plates, amending
5 named Acts."; and
6 on page 1, below line 4, by inserting the following:
7 "Section 3. The State Finance Act is amended by adding
8 Section 5.449 as follows:
9 (30 ILCS 105/5.449 new)
10 Sec. 5.449. The Illinois and Michigan Canal Fund."; and
11 on page 1, line 6, by replacing "Section 3-639" with the
12 following:
13 "Sections 3-639 and 3-640"; and
14 on page 2, below line 3, by inserting the following:
15 "(625 ILCS 5/3-640 new)
16 Sec. 3-640. Illinois and Michigan Canal plates.
17 (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees
18 and applications made in the form prescribed by the
19 Secretary, may issue special registration plates designated
20 as Illinois and Michigan Canal license plates.

1 The special plates issued under this Section shall be
2 affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division or
3 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
4 8,000 pounds.
5 Plates issued under this Section shall expire according
6 to the multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of
7 this Code.
8 (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
9 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate
10 documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall
11 accompany each application.
12 (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged
13 a $40 fee for original issuance in addition to the
14 appropriate registration fee. Of this fee, $25 shall be
15 deposited into the Illinois and Michigan Canal Fund and $15
16 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special
17 License Plate Fund, to be used by the Secretary to help
18 defray the administrative processing costs.
19 For each registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in
20 addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be
21 charged. Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the
22 Illinois and Michigan Canal Fund and $2 shall be deposited
23 into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
24 (d) The Illinois and Michigan Canal Fund is created as a
25 special fund in the State treasury. All money in the
26 Illinois and Michigan Canal Fund shall be used, subject to
27 appropriation by the General Assembly, by the Department of
28 Natural Resources for restoration and improvements of the
29 Illinois and Michigan Canal and its adjacent structures.".
