1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1657
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 1657 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
4 "Section 5. The Acupuncture Practice Act is amended by
5 changing Section 40 as follows:
6 (225 ILCS 2/40)
7 Sec. 40. Application for licensure. Applications for
8 original licensure as an acupuncturist shall be made to the
9 Department in writing on forms prescribed by the Department
10 and shall be accompanied by the required fee, which shall not
11 be refundable.
12 Until December 31, 2001, applicants shall submit with the
13 application proof of passing the National Commission for the
14 Certification of Acupuncturists examination or a
15 substantially equivalent examination approved by the
16 Department or meeting any other qualifications established by
17 the Department.
18 On and after January 1, 2002, the Department shall issue
19 a license to an applicant who submits with the application
20 proof of each of the following:
21 (1)(A) graduation from a school accredited by the
22 National Accreditation Commission for Schools and

1 Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine or a
2 similar accrediting body approved by the Department; or
3 (B) completion of a comprehensive educational program
4 approved by the Department; and
5 (2) passing the National Commission for the
6 Certification of Acupuncturists' examination or a
7 substantially equivalent examination approved by the
8 Department.
9 An applicant has 3 years from the date of his or her
10 application to complete the application process. If the
11 process has not been completed in 3 years, the application
12 shall be denied, the fee shall be forfeited, and the
13 applicant must reapply and meet the requirements in effect at
14 the time of reapplication.
