1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Richard Barber, Jr. on February 6, 1997; and
4 WHEREAS, Richard Barber, Jr. was born on January 12,
5 1922, the son of Richard Barber, Sr. and Lynette Wyman;
6 Richard Jr. was the eldest of six children; and
7 WHEREAS, Richard Barber, Jr. graduated from Wells High
8 School in 1940; he worked with the Cook County Department of
9 Highway and Traffic until his retirement on February 5, 1991;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, In 1946 Richard met the woman he would marry,
12 Audrei L. Mayberry; on December 1, 1950 they were married;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour
15 early in his life and became a member of the Carey
16 Tercentenary A.M.E. Church in 1990; and
17 WHEREAS, Richard Barber, Jr. is survived by fourteen
18 children; Richard Barber, III., David Barber, Michael Barber,
19 Anthony Barber, Joseph Barber, Stephen Barber, Gennard
20 Barber, Lalia Joyce Cossom, Valerie A. Richardson, Antionette
21 Y. Hines, Angela E. Barnes, Ingrid M. Barber, Cecile G.
22 Barber, and Keithan A. Barber; his brother Charles Barber;
23 his sister Mary Bonds; daughters-in-law Cynthia, Catherine,
24 Laverne, Rebecca, Linda, Katrina, and Lynn; sons-in-law
25 Robert, Lavell, Ervin, and Clark; fifty grandchildren;
26 eighteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews,
27 cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
29 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn along with the family
30 and friends of Richard Barber, Jr.; and be it further

2 presented to the family of Richard Barber, Jr.
