1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, This Body is saddened to learn of the death of
3 Dr. James William Marshall of Monmouth, Illinois on Sunday
4 May 25, 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, James Marshall was born in Monmouth, Illinois on
6 August 2, 1915; James Marshall was the son of Bert and
7 Genevieve Nicklin Marshall; on March 30, 1940 he married
8 Isabel Bickett, in Chicago, Illinois; and
9 WHEREAS, James Marshall graduated from Monmouth College
10 in 1936; Dr. Marshall received his M.D. degree from the
11 University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago in 1940; his
12 internship was served in internal medicine at Milwaukee
13 General Hospital; and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall served in the Army Medical Corps
15 from 1943 to 1946, where he attained the rank of major; and
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall was a member of the Warren County
17 Medical Society and the American Medical Association; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall was named Man of the Year by the
19 Chamber of Commerce of Monmouth in 1977; he was awarded the
20 Distinguished Alumni Award from Monmouth College in 1981; Dr.
21 Marshall served as college doctor at Monmouth College for
22 forty years and was treasurer of the Monmouth College Senate;
23 and
24 WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall served on the Monmouth Public
25 School Board for 16 years; Dr. Marshall was a member of the
26 Monmouth Rotary Club; Dr. Marshall was a member and elder of
27 Faith United Presbyterian Church; and
28 WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall returned to his hometown to
29 practice medicine, where he served the community until his
30 retirement in July of 1990; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall is survived by his loving wife
2 Isabel; his son John; his daughter Jane Kellogg and her
3 husband Buster; his niece Alis Ann Creswell Chy, and his
4 nephew John Ward Creswell, both of whom were raised in Dr.
5 Marshall's home; his sister Betty Ranney; and three
6 grandchildren; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
8 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his
9 family, friends, and the community of Monmouth, Illinois, the
10 death of Dr. James Marshall; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Dr. James Marshall.
