1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sympathy to the family and congregation of
4 Pastor James L. Tolliver Jr., who passed away on June 7,
5 1997; and
6 WHEREAS, Pastor Tolliver was affiliated with Holy
7 Communion Church, True Vine of Holiness Missionary Baptist
8 Church, and Greater St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church;
9 he pastored Christ Temple Community Church, Perfect Love of
10 God Missionary Baptist Church, and served New Hope Missionary
11 Baptist Church until his passing; while serving at New Hope,
12 Pastor Tolliver made many changes to the church, and saw the
13 completion of several fruitful projects, including:
14 instituting the junior choir, installing the baptismal pool,
15 revitalizing the bus ministry, beginning the remodeling of
16 the church sanctuary, establishing the men's auxiliary,
17 refurbishing the pulpit and choir area, and revitalizing the
18 church deacon board; and
19 WHEREAS, Pastor Tolliver was the son of James L.
20 Tolliver, Sr. and Bernice Chappelle Phillips; he was the
21 loving husband of Rita H. Anderson Tolliver; he was the
22 dedicated father of Dwaine, Michael, Denise, Tanya, Rosanne,
23 James, and Jonathan; he was the proud grandfather of Aisha,
24 Carla, Anthony, Monique, Brandon, Joseph, and Jason; he was
25 the brother of Melvin, Bernard, and Vidella; he was an uncle
26 and great uncle to his many nieces and nephews; and was a
27 spiritual leader, teacher, and friend to many people over the
28 years; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
30 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his
31 family, friends, and congregation, the death of Pastor James
32 L. Tolliver, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Pastor James L. Tolliver, Jr.,
3 along with our sincere condolences.
