1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Firefighter/Paramedic Patrick J. King on
4 February 11, 1998; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born on February 24, 1957 and shortly
6 before his twentieth birthday, on December 1, 1976, he joined
7 the Chicago Fire Department as a paramedic; and
8 WHEREAS, He was promoted to Paramedic Officer on August
9 16, 1979 and was assigned to Ambulance 22 on Chicago's
10 southside on May 1, 1983; he transferred to Ambulance 18 on
11 December 16, 1984 and remained there until January 4, 1995
12 when he transferred to Ambulance 17; and
13 WHEREAS, On May 16, 1996, he accepted an offer to cross
14 train and entered the Robert I. Quinn Fire Academy as a
15 candidate firefighter; following more than three months of
16 training he was assigned to Truck 45 in the same firehouse as
17 Ambulance 17, his former assignment as a paramedic; and
18 WHEREAS, He was on Truck 45 when he responded to his last
19 alarm on the evening of February 11, 1998; and
20 WHEREAS, Firefighter/Paramedic Patrick J. King was the
21 first paramedic on the Chicago Fire Department to die in the
22 line of duty; and
23 WHEREAS, He was awarded the City of Chicago Honorable
24 Mention Award as well as several letters of commendation; and
25 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by family and
26 friends, especially his wife, Gina; his mother; and two
27 brothers; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
29 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret
30 the death of Patrick J. King and offer our sincere

1 condolences to his family; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
3 his widow, Gina King.
