1 AN ACT to amend the Metropolitan Transit Authority Act by
2 changing Section 30.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Metropolitan Transit Authority Act is
6 amended by changing Section 30 as follows:
7 (70 ILCS 3605/30) (from Ch. 111 2/3, par. 330)
8 Sec. 30. Rules. The Board shall make all rules and
9 regulations governing the operation of the transportation
10 system, shall determine all routings and change the same
11 whenever it is deemed advisable by the Board, subject to the
12 provisions of any ordinance granting rights to the Authority.
13 Except as provided in Section 4.11(b)(5) of the "Regional
14 Transportation Authority Act", the Board shall fix rates,
15 fares and charges for transportation, provided that they
16 shall be at all times sufficient in the aggregate to provide
17 revenues (a) for the payment of the interest on and principal
18 of all bonds, certificates and other obligations payable from
19 said revenues and to meet all other charges upon such
20 revenues as provided by any trust agreement executed by the
21 Authority in connection with the issuance of bonds or
22 certificates under this Act, (b) for the payment of all
23 operating costs including all charges which may be incurred
24 pursuant to Sections 29 and 39 of this Act and all other
25 costs and charges incidental to the operation of the
26 transportation system, (c) for the payment of all costs and
27 charges incurred pursuant to Sections 37 and 38 of this Act
28 and any other costs and charges for acquisition,
29 installation, construction or for replacement or
30 reconstruction of equipment, structures or rights of way not
31 financed through issuance of bonds or certificates under

1 Section 12 of this Act, and (d) for any compensation required
2 to be paid to any municipality for the use of streets,
3 subways and other public ways. The Board may provide free
4 transportation within any municipality in and by which they
5 are employed for firemen and public health nurses, when in
6 uniform, and policemen when in uniform or, when not in
7 uniform, upon presentation of identification as policemen,
8 and may shall provide free transportation to sworn law
9 enforcement personnel of the Cook County Sheriff's Department
10 when in uniform or, when not in uniform, upon presentation of
11 identification as sworn law enforcement personnel of the Cook
12 County Sheriff's Department, and may provide free
13 transportation for employees of the Authority when in uniform
14 or upon presentation of identification as such employees, and
15 may enter into agreements with the United States Post Office
16 Department for the transportation of mail, and the payment of
17 compensation to the Authority in lieu of fares for the
18 transportation of letter carriers, when in uniform at all
19 times.
20 The Board may also provide free transportation, or
21 transportation at reduced fares, to all or designated classes
22 of pupils in attendance at public schools of school districts
23 within or partly within the territorial limits of the
24 Authority, or in attendance at private schools offering
25 grades of instruction comparable to those offered in public
26 schools, under such conditions as shall be prescribed by the
27 Board, and, if otherwise authorized by law, the Board may
28 contract with public school boards and representatives of
29 private schools, for reimbursement of pupil transportation
30 costs from public funds.

32 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
33 becoming law.
