1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has seen tremendous
3 population growth in many parts of the State; and
4 WHEREAS, A result of this growth has been increased
5 traffic congestion; and
6 WHEREAS, The timing and synchronization of traffic lights
7 directly effects the traffic congestion problems in these
8 areas; and
9 WHEREAS, Traffic congestion and drive times can be
10 significantly reduced if proper traffic light synchronization
11 is achieved; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
14 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Department of
15 Transportation is directed to conduct a two-year study on
16 traffic light synchronization within the high traffic areas
17 of the State; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation is
19 directed to report to the General Assembly by January 1, 2002
20 with recommendations on which areas are in need of traffic
21 light synchronization, what methods can be used to achieve
22 synchronization, and cost estimates related to implementing
23 these recommendations; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 presented to the Secretary of Transportation.
