1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of Leslie "Les" Hodge, who passed away
5 on February 26, 1999; and
6 WHEREAS, Les Hodge was born in Waltonville, Illinois, on
7 December 31, 1924; his parents were Guy and Ethel May Hodge;
8 he was united in marriage to Melba V. Jensen on June 25,
9 1947, in St. Charles, Illinois; and
10 WHEREAS, Les Hodge was a veteran of the second World War,
11 where he served in the United States Air Force in the South
12 Pacific; Les Hodge retired as a lieutenant volunteer
13 firefighter with the Batavia Fire Department in 1970; and
14 WHEREAS, Les Hodge will be remembered for his coverage of
15 Batavia High School sports as a sports writer for the Batavia
16 Herald and the Kane County Chronicle; he was elected into the
17 Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1989 for his
18 writing and his devotion to high school athletics; and
19 WHEREAS, Les Hodge was a member of Bethany Lutheran
20 Church in Batavia; and
21 WHEREAS, Les Hodge is survived by his four children,
22 Janis (Jeff) Graffagna, Gerald (Lisa) Hodge, Gregg (Nancy)
23 Hodge, and Sandra (Bob) Wagner; his grandchildren, Erin,
24 Mallory, Christopher, Jaclyn, Kelsey, Ben, Steven, Kevin,
25 Jay, Samantha, and Douglas; his sister, Myrtle Petrosky; his
26 brother, Ronald (Theresa) Hodge; his friend, Steve Marshall;
27 and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we mourn, with sadness, the death of Leslie "Les" Hodge of
31 Batavia, Illinois; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Leslie "Les" Hodge.
