1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of Bruce E. Miller, who recently
5 passed away; and
6 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller was born on August 25, 1951; he
7 is survived by his wife, Perry Miller; his children, Bruce
8 Miller, Jr., Janie Miller, Daryl Miller, Aleesha Miller, and
9 Tris Monet Miller; and
10 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller received his Bachelor of Science
11 in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University
12 in Edwardsville in August of 1976; he received his Juris
13 Doctor on May 15, 1982 at the Southern Illinois University
14 School of Law; in July of 1982 he passed the Illinois State
15 Bar Exam; and
16 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller worked as a Transportation
17 Manager for School District #188 from 1973 to 1978; he served
18 as a teacher's aide for the same school district in the
19 summer of 1975; he worked for Trailways, Inc. from 1978 to
20 1979; he was the manager of Miller Trucking Company in 1978;
21 and he served as a law clerk for the Jackson County State's
22 Attorney from January of 1982 to May of that same year; and
23 WHEREAS, From November of 1982 to September of 1988,
24 Bruce E. Miller served with the Legislative Reference Bureau
25 in the State Capitol as a staff attorney; and
26 WHEREAS, Mr. Miller went on to serve as Senior Attorney
27 in the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts from 1988
28 to the present; and
29 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller will be remembered for his many
30 accomplishments, from being one of the chief founders of the
31 Illinois Association of Minorities in Government in November

1 of 1987, to holding a seat on and serving as Secretary for
2 the Board of Directors in that same organization; he was
3 selected as an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1978 by
4 the Outstanding Young Men of America organization; and
5 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller also served in other roles: he
6 served as a secretary for the Brooklyn Fire Department; he
7 served as Vice Chairman of the Lovejoy Community Service
8 Center Advisory Board; he was appointed by the Governor of
9 Illinois to the Board of Directors of the Southwest Regional
10 Port Authority; and he was elected by the people of Brooklyn
11 as their Representative to the Saint Clair County Economic
12 Opportunity Commission Board of Directors for a five-year
13 term beginning in 1974; and
14 WHEREAS, He worked with Gary McCants on a resolution
15 brought before and passed by the Illinois House of
16 Representatives that established a prayer room and chapel on
17 the first floor of the Illinois State Capitol; this room
18 affords anyone that needs to utilize it a place for quiet
19 reflection and solitude away from the hectic pace of the
20 daily workings within the Capitol; and
21 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller served his church as well; he
22 was Superintendent of the St. John African Methodist
23 Episcopal Church Sunday School program in Springfield; he
24 tutored Sunday School students and developed holiday and
25 special occasion programs for the children; he had recently
26 taken a position as Director of Christian Education with the
27 Illinois Conference of AME Churches for the South District;
28 and
29 WHEREAS, Bruce E. Miller will be remembered for his
30 dedication to any task he took upon himself; he was a hard
31 worker, and a valued part of his community; therefore, be it
32 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of
3 Bruce E. Miller; in this time of loss may they find solace
4 and peace; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Bruce E. Miller.
