1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The death of former State Senator and
3 Representative James C. Taylor of Chicago brings much sadness
4 to the members of the House of Representatives; and
5 WHEREAS, James C. Taylor was a born in Crawfordsville,
6 Arkansas, on February 8, 1930; he was a high school dropout
7 who moved to Chicago and sold T-shirts; he later became a
8 boxer, winning 91 out of 96 fights; he then drove a cab and
9 later was offered a job collecting garbage at the 16th Ward
10 Democratic Headquarters; and
11 WHEREAS, A veteran of the Korean conflict, he was
12 educated at the University of Illinois and Monticello
13 College; and
14 WHEREAS, He rose through the ranks of the Chicago
15 Democratic Organization to become a precinct captain, 16th
16 Ward committeeman, and deputy general superintendent in the
17 city's Bureau of Streets and Sanitation; and
18 WHEREAS, He served in both the Senate and the House of
19 Representatives from the 76th to the 83rd General Assemblies;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, In his later years, he maintained an interest in
22 the South Side neighborhood he served as a politician; and
23 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his devoted
24 family and friends, especially his wife, Ella Mae; his son,
25 Richard; his daughters, Cynthia Taylor-Belle and Cassaundra
26 Lewis; his mother, Laurine; his sisters, Denoise, Deris, and
27 Denise; and six grandchildren; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we express our most sincere condolences to the family of

1 James C. Taylor, a respected colleague who will be missed;
2 and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to his widow, Ella Mae Taylor.
