1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Clyde L. Choate of Anna received the
3 Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions when he was a
4 Staff Sergeant with the United States Army during World War
5 II near Bruyeres, France, on October 25, 1944; and
6 WHEREAS, He commanded a tank destroyer; an enemy Mark IV
7 tank and a company of infantry attacked, threatening to
8 overrun the American position and to capture a command post;
9 the tank destroyer was set afire with 2 hits; and
10 WHEREAS, Ordering his men to abandon the destroyer,
11 S/Sgt. Choate returned to the destroyer searching for injured
12 men; completing the search and seeing the tank overrunning
13 our infantry, he secured a bazooka and fired a rocket from a
14 distance of 20 yards, immobilizing the tank but leaving it
15 able to spray the area with cannon and machine gun fire; and
16 WHEREAS, He secured another rocket and his second shot
17 shattered the turret; with his pistol he killed 2 of the
18 crew; running to the tank, he dropped a grenade inside the
19 tank and completed its destruction; and
20 WHEREAS, S/Sgt. Choate's great daring in assaulting an
21 enemy tank single-handedly and his skill in the attack turned
22 a probable defeat into a tactical success; and
23 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is proud of people like
24 Clyde L. Choate, who risked his life in the service of his
25 country; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Clyde L. Choate in receiving the
29 Congressional Medal of Honor; that we commend him for his
30 valor and courage; and that we wish him all the best of luck
31 in the future; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Clyde L. Choate as an expression of our esteem.
