1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The National Association of Letter Carriers
3 (NALC) Decatur Branch 317, The United States Postal Service
4 (USPS), Rural Carriers, the United Way of Decatur/Macon
5 County, and the AFL-CIO Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly will
6 sponsor the Letter Carriers' Food Drive once again; and
7 WHEREAS, On Saturday May 8, 1999, residents will be asked
8 to place canned goods by their mailboxes; the letter carriers
9 will pick up the food and deliver it to seven area food
10 pantries for distribution to those that need it in the
11 Decatur and Macon County areas; and
12 WHEREAS, Salvation Army, St. Johns Northeast Community
13 Fund, Love-Unlimited, Catholic Charities, and United Harvest
14 Church will all benefit from the food drive; and
15 WHEREAS, Last year, over 77,000 pounds of food was
16 collected in the Decatur and Macon County drive; nationally,
17 over 62.5 million pounds of food was collected, as well as a
18 donation of 20 million pounds of canned goods from Campbell
19 Soup; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22 we say thank you to the men and women of Decatur and Macon
23 County that will be involved in the 1999 Letter Carriers'
24 Food Drive; through their hard work and effort, community
25 food banks will be able to feed those in need; and be it
26 further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to a representative of the National Association of
29 Letter Carriers (NALC) Decatur Branch 317.
