1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere sympathies to
4 the family and friends of Kenneth Tyler, who passed away on
5 April 24, 1999; and
6 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler was born in Chicago, Illinois, on
7 October 28, 1954; his parents were Arthur and Ruby Lemmons
8 Tyler; he attended Chicago Public Schools and graduated from
9 DuSable High School in 1973; in 1972 he was a member of the
10 DuSable football team champions; and
11 WHEREAS, In 1983 he married Cynthia Jones; together they
12 were the parents of Candeca M'Blia, Malcolm Marcus, and Kwame
13 Ture (named after Mr. Tyler's friend); and
14 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler was baptized and accepted Christ
15 at Greater Walters Church; and
16 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler attended Luther College in
17 Decorah, Iowa, where he graduated in 1977 with majors in
18 Black Studies, Arts, and Education; he was an accomplished
19 artist and was art director for Kumba Magazine, published by
20 the Luther College Black Student Union; he played football
21 for 4 years of college, served as president of the Black
22 Student Union, and joined the All African Peoples
23 Revolutionary Party (AAPRP), which was founded by Kwame Ture
24 (Stokely Carmichael), a close friend of Kenneth Tyler, who
25 recently preceded him in death; Mr. Tyler remained as an
26 organizer of the AAPRP until his death; and
27 WHEREAS, In 1978 Kenneth Tyler went to work as a student
28 teacher at East Waterloo High School; he went on to full time
29 employment with Lutheran General Hospital in 1979, where he
30 worked with medical supplies; in January of 1999 he was
31 transferred to Christ Hospital; and

1 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler began attending Calvary Missionary
2 Baptist Church two years ago, where he participated in the
3 Sunday School program; he also served as coach of the Pee
4 Wee/Small Fry Basketball Team at Calvary Complex for the last
5 year; and
6 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler has worked for the
7 African-American people for over twenty years; he is
8 remembered by those that knew him as someone who put others'
9 needs ahead of his own; he worked with young people and
10 encouraged them to work for the people, as well as reminding
11 them of the importance of education; and
12 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler is survived by his wife, Cynthia;
13 his daughters, Tomocha (Terrance) Coleman, and Candeca; his
14 son, Malcolm; his father, Arthur (Geraldine) Tyler; his
15 sisters, Margaret "Mickey" Kim Newell, Patricia Wilson,
16 Stevenia Brown, and Alana Tyler; his brothers, David "Toby"
17 Tyler, Arthur Tyler, and Jeremy Tyler; "Mom" Julia and "Pops"
18 Willie Jones; his sister-in-law Teresa Jones; his
19 brothers-in-law, Willie (Angel) Jones, Warren (Erika) Jones,
20 Kris (Lisa) Jones, Darnell (Angie) Jones, and DeShawn Jones;
21 his aunts, Ann Hill, Jewel Jones, Mary Tyler, Alice Jones,
22 Emma Tell, and Margaret Ann Shaver; his uncles, Robert
23 Lemmons, Willie (Mary Jean) Tyler, Walter Jones, James
24 (Mabel) Jones, and David (Aretha) Williams; his
25 granddaughter, Shianne Coleman; and many nieces, nephews,
26 cousins, and friends; and
27 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler was preceded in death by his
28 mother, Ruby; his son, Kwame; and his brother, Paul Wilson;
29 therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
32 we mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of

1 Kenneth Tyler of Chicago, Illinois; may all that knew him
2 find peace at this time of need; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Kenneth Tyler.
