1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Floyd Deming will be celebrating his 105th
6 birthday on May 15, 1999; Mr. Deming is the oldest veteran at
7 the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois; and
8 WHEREAS, The staff and administration of the Veterans
9 Home will honor Mr. Deming on May 14 with a brief ceremony;
10 John Johnston, Director of the Illinois Department of
11 Veterans Affairs, will be on hand to present Mr. Deming with
12 a certificate from Governor Ryan; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Deming is a veteran of World War I and a
14 retired farmer; his memories include riding in a covered
15 wagon from Illinois to Arkansas to pick cotton; he also
16 remembers living in a log cabin; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Deming is well-liked by the residents and
18 staff of the Illinois Veterans Home, where he is described as
19 having a wonderful sense of humor; he and his wife, Anna,
20 will be celebrating their 79th wedding anniversary on May 31;
21 it is believed that Mr. Deming may be the oldest veteran in
22 the State, and possibly the nation; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we congratulate Mr. Floyd Deming on his 105th birthday; we
26 honor him for serving his country as a veteran of World War
27 I; and we congratulate him and his wife on their 79th wedding
28 anniversary; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to Floyd Deming, along with our sincere regards.
