1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Police Officer Frank Balzano of Chicago on
4 November 13, 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, Police Officer Balzano died after being struck
6 in the face; and
7 WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on September 8, 1932; he
8 attended Carpenter Grammar School; the family moved to
9 Necedah, Wisconsin, where he attended high school and played
10 basketball; and
11 WHEREAS, He joined the army in 1950 for three years; his
12 last year he was assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he
13 met his wife to be, Jean; they were married in August of
14 1953; and
15 WHEREAS, He joined the Chicago Police Department on
16 February 16, 1958 and held various positions in his 39 years;
17 he worked undercover on the Task Force for gambling, was a
18 motorcycle cop, and worked K-9 for almost 25 years; his last
19 few years were spent at O'Hare Field with his best partner
20 "Max"; and
21 WHEREAS, He was also a Shriner, part of the Black Horse
22 Troop, and appeared in the Rose Bowl Parade; and
23 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
24 and friends, especially his wife, Jean; his children, Frank,
25 Jr., Dan, and Cathy; and his grandchildren, Dan, Jason, and
26 Michael; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we note with sorrow and regret the death of Police Officer
30 Frank Balzano and extend our sincere condolences to his

2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to his widow, Jean Balzano.
