1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, December 7, 2001 is the 60th anniversary of the
3 sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Navy and Air
4 Forces on December 7, 1941; and
5 WHEREAS, On August 23, 1994, President William J. Clinton
6 signed HJ Res 131 National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day into
7 law; said PL 103-308 urged all to fly the flag of the United
8 States at half staff to honor all those individuals who died
9 as the result of their service at Pearl Harbor on December 7,
10 1941; and
11 WHEREAS, There were no appropriate ceremonies,
12 activities, or any press releases to the mass media to inform
13 the general public of PL 103-308; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 in order to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the attack on
17 Pearl Harbor, we urge the Senate and the House of
18 Representatives of the United States of America to enact
19 legislation requiring all governmental posts to fly the flag
20 of the United States at half staff to honor all those
21 individuals who died as the result of their service at Pearl
22 Harbor on December 7, 1941 and urging all Americans to do
23 likewise; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That the President of the United States issue a
25 proclamation and press releases to all mass media about PL
26 103-308 and the aforementioned legislation so that the
27 general public will know of same; and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
29 forwarded to the President of the United States, the
30 President pro tempore of the United States Senate, the
31 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and to

1 each member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
