1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of this Body that
6 Judy Williams, a teacher at Louise White Elementary School in
7 Batavia recently received National Board Certification from
8 the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards; and
9 WHEREAS, The National Board for Professional Teaching
10 Standards (NBPTS) was founded in 1987; it is an independent,
11 nonprofit, non-partisan, and non-governmental organization;
12 NBPTS is dedicated to raising the standards of teaching in
13 classrooms across the United States; and
14 WHEREAS, National Board Certification is achieved through
15 a tough performance-based assessment; the teacher is tested
16 on their knowledge of subject matter, their ability to teach
17 students, and their ability to manage and measure student
18 learning; and
19 WHEREAS, Judy Williams has been teaching for 21 years in
20 the Batavia Public School system; she currently teaches fifth
21 grade at Louise White Elementary School; Judy Williams is to
22 be honored by Governor George Ryan in February of 2000 at the
23 Governors Mansion in Springfield; and
24 WHEREAS, Judy Williams, and her husband, Jerry, have been
25 residents of Batavia for many years; their daughters, Shari
26 and Mindi, were both educated in the Batavia schools; and
27 WHEREAS, Asked by the Illinois State Board of Education
28 for her assistance, Judy Williams is currently mentoring
29 Illinois candidates for the National Board Certification
30 process; and

1 WHEREAS, Judy Williams has supervised student teachers,
2 has mentored other teachers, has served on many curriculum
3 development committees, has presented lectures on supervising
4 student teachers, has made presentations at State
5 organizations and associations, has been a consultant and
6 reviewer for text book publishers, has been trained as a
7 member of the Illinois State Board of Education visitation
8 team, and has been a member of the Illinois State Board of
9 Education Assessment Advisory Committee, in addition to her
10 duties as a teacher, wife, and mother; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we congratulate Judy Williams on her National Board
14 Certification from the National Board for Professional
15 Teaching Standards; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Judy Williams.
