1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Art education contributes powerful educational
3 benefits to all elementary, middle, and secondary students;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, Art education develops students' creative
6 problem-solving and critical thinking abilities; and
7 WHEREAS, Art education teaches sensitivity to beauty,
8 order, and other expressive qualities; and
9 WHEREAS, Art education gives students a deeper
10 understanding of multi-cultural values and beliefs; and
11 WHEREAS, Art education reinforces and brings to life what
12 students learn in other subjects; and
13 WHEREAS, Art education interrelates student learning in
14 art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, Our national leaders have acknowledged the
17 necessity of including arts experiences in all students'
18 education; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 support should be given to art teachers as they attempt to
22 strengthen art education in their schools and communities;
23 and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That the month of March be declared Youth Art
25 Month in the State of Illinois; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That all citizens are urged to take interest in
27 and give full support to quality school art programs for
28 children and youth; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
