1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Carole A. Kopis of Belleville, Illinois, is
6 retiring as the Deputy Executive Director of the Southwestern
7 Illinois Area Agency on Aging on April 30, 2000; and
8 WHEREAS, Carole Kopis received her education from
9 Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, with a Bachelor
10 of Arts degree in Biology and Chemistry, and a Masters of
11 Science degree in Secondary Education and Biology; she was
12 also an honor graduate at the University; she has taken
13 additional classes at Belleville Area College in the business
14 department; and
15 WHEREAS, Carole Kopis has served as the Deputy Executive
16 Director of the Southwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging
17 since 1983; she previously worked for the Illinois State
18 AFL-CIO, was the Assistant State COPE Director and
19 Legislative Representative, taught school at Coolidge Junior
20 High School in Granite City, and was a Licensed Practical
21 Nurse and Surgical Technician at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in
22 Granite City; and
23 WHEREAS, She is a member of the American Association of
24 University Women and the St. Clair County Lawyers Wives
25 Association; she has been a member of the Granite City
26 Democratic Club, the Business and Professional Women's Club,
27 and the American Association of University Women; and
28 WHEREAS, Carole Kopis is currently affiliated with the
29 Illinois Coalition on Aging, where she serves as Treasurer;
30 she previously served on the board of directors and was the
31 vice president of the Illinois Alliance for Aging, the

1 secretary of the Illinois Gerontology Consortium, and on the
2 board of directors of the Illinois South Project and the
3 Illinois Labor Press Association; she has also been a part of
4 the Governor's Task Force on Enterprise Zones, the Illinois
5 Collaboration on Youth, the Governor's Task Force on the
6 Future of Illinois, and the White House Commission on
7 Children; and
8 WHEREAS, Carole Kopis has been married to Attorney
9 William F. Kopis for 32 years; their son, Jeff A. Kopis, is
10 an attorney in the city of Edwardsville; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we congratulate Carole A. Kopis on her retirement as Deputy
14 Executive Director of the Southwestern Illinois Area Agency
15 on Aging; we extend our best wishes in her future endeavors;
16 and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Carole A. Kopis.
