1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the House of
3 Representatives that Bloom Township High School in Chicago
4 Heights is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary this
5 year; and
6 WHEREAS, The school received its charter on May 21, 1900;
7 it began in four rooms rented from Washington School with an
8 initial enrollment of 81 students and 3 teachers; and
9 WHEREAS, By 1901, a new school was built on the southwest
10 corner of Lincoln and Dixie Highways; in 1931, construction
11 began on the Bloom Township High School at 10th Street and
12 Dixie Highway and, in 1934, students moved into the new
13 school; and
14 WHEREAS, The centennial celebration starts with the
15 Centennial Family Festival May 20 and 21 on the Bloom High
16 School grounds; on June 26, the District 206 Education
17 Foundation will sponsor its eighth annual golf outing at the
18 Glenwoodie golf course; and the centennial will conclude in
19 September with a three-day schedule of events, starting with
20 the homecoming football game and a reunion of all Bloom
21 Township High School classes; and
22 WHEREAS, During the past one hundred years, Bloom
23 Township High School has gone through a series of
24 renovations, expansions, and modernizations, and through it
25 all has, with dedication and devotion, notably continued to
26 provide Chicago Heights with the necessary services essential
27 to the education and stabilization of the youth of the
28 community; and
29 WHEREAS, Bloom Township High School has been a stable and
30 enduring beacon of scholastic service to its community;
31 therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we congratulate Bloom Township High School of Chicago Heights
4 on the occasion of its centennial anniversary and acknowledge
5 the valuable services it has provided throughout the years;
6 and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to Linda Byrd, Principal of Bloom Township High
9 School.
