1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the State
4 of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, A small building in Irving, Illinois has stood
6 the test of time and is now 100-years old; the Montgomery
7 News reported on July 28, 1899 that a new bank would soon
8 open in Irving and in 1900 Kelly, Carter, and Company opened
9 at 222 East State Street; and
10 WHEREAS, In 1907 the name changed to Irving National
11 Bank; Milton Berry was cashier until his retirement in 1927;
12 Ross Jarrett assumed the duties of cashier until the bank
13 closed on March 31, 1931; Montgomery County Farm Service
14 Company was the last business to occupy the building; and
15 WHEREAS, Through the determination and dreams of Lamar
16 Hartman, the former bank building escaped the clutches of the
17 wrecking ball on October 13, 1998, when it was declared a
18 historic building; the last owners of the building, M & M
19 Service Company, returned the building to the village for the
20 sum of one dollar; a committee was formed and plans were made
21 to turn the building into the Irving Area Historical Museum;
22 and
23 WHEREAS, Through the hard work and devotion of Lamar
24 Hartman, Irving, Illinois is now the home of the Irving Area
25 Historical Museum, and a beautiful and historically rich
26 landmark remains a centerpiece of the community; therefore,
27 be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we congratulate Lamar Hartman on a job well done; and we
31 celebrate with the people of Irving, Illinois as they mark

1 the occasion of this 100-year old building that has come to
2 mean so much to the community; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the Irving Area Historical Museum.
