1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Richard J.
6 Tomoleoni has made the decision to retire from his hard work
7 as an educator; and
8 WHEREAS, Richard J. Tomoleoni was born on July 11, 1941
9 in the City of Chicago; he graduated from Steinmetz High
10 School in 1959, received his Bachelor's degree from Northern
11 Illinois University in 1963, and his Master's degree from
12 Northern Illinois University in 1967; and
13 WHEREAS, Richard J. Tomoleoni has been a physical
14 education teacher since 1963; he started his teaching career
15 at Tuley High School, where he also served as head baseball
16 coach; in 1974 he moved to Clemente High School, where he
17 also was in the position of head baseball coach; and
18 WHEREAS, Richard J. Tomoleoni led his baseball teams to
19 eight city championships in 1974, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1988,
20 1989, 1995, and 1997; in 1989 and 1995 his teams went to the
21 final four in the State tournament; he led his teams to
22 fifteen conference championships, coached them to the State
23 Tournament Final a record eight times, was the Chicago Public
24 League runner-up three times, and through the years won 716
25 regular season varsity games, making him the winningest coach
26 in the Chicago Public League; and
27 WHEREAS, In addition to his teaching and coaching
28 positions, Richard J. Tomoleoni has served as the charter
29 president of the Chicago Public League Baseball Coaches
30 Association, and as the Teachers' Union Chairman on the
31 extra-curricular committee; he served on the Niles Elementary

1 School District #71 Board of Education from 1987 to 1994,
2 serving as President of the Board from 1993 to 1994; he was a
3 member of the Mayor's Task Force to Attract Young Families
4 from 1991 to 1992; and he was the Community Youth Program
5 coaching advisor; and
6 WHEREAS, Richard J. Tomoleoni has also worked with the
7 Cincinnati Reds baseball organization since 1970 as a
8 recommending scout; he is in the Hall of Fame of the State
9 Coaches Association, where he was inducted as the first
10 Chicago Public Coach; he was a finalist for National Coach of
11 the Year in 1990; and he was named Chicago Coach of the Year
12 eight times; and
13 WHEREAS, Richard J. Tomoleoni will be enjoying his
14 retirement along with his wife, Linda; his children, Lisa,
15 Lori, Lena, Lia, Joe, and Mike; and his grandchildren, Nina
16 and Gus; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we congratulate Richard J. Tomoleoni on a job well done; he
20 is to be commended for his hard work and dedication to
21 teaching and coaching the young people of Chicago; and be it
22 further
23 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to Richard J. Tomoleoni.
