1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the
4 history of churches in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that St. Patrick
6 Church in Pana, Illinois will be celebrating its Diamond
7 Jubilee on March 17, 2001; and
8 WHEREAS, The Church will celebrate the Jubilee Mass with
9 Bishop George Lucas of the Springfield Diocese and Father Don
10 Roberts, Pastor of St. Patrick Church; and
11 WHEREAS, The building that is the home to St. Patrick
12 Church was dedicated on March 17, 1926; the dedication was
13 celebrated with a Pontifical High Mass and Sermon by the
14 Right Reverend James Griffin, Bishop of the Springfield
15 Diocese; Papal Honors were conferred upon Reverend Father
16 John P. Moroney and his people by His Holiness, Pope Pius XI,
17 in the bestowal of His Apostolic Benediction; the Apostolic
18 Benediction is considered one of the highest honors a priest
19 or Catholic people can receive from the Holy Father; and
20 WHEREAS, In addition to the beautiful church building
21 there is a rectory that was erected in 1994; the church
22 grounds is also home to Sacred Heart School, teaching
23 students from kindergarten through the eighth grade; and
24 WHEREAS, Inside the church is the Lourdes Grotto, in
25 honor of Our Lady of Lourdes; the grotto was given in memory
26 of Loretto Sheean Tenbush by her husband, William J. Tenbush;
27 Mr. Tenbush also donated a Lourdes Grotto to a church in
28 China, two to Michigan churches, and one in Immaculata,
29 Pennsylvania; and
30 WHEREAS, The pastors of St. Patrick Church have included
31 Reverend John Peter Moroney, from 1926 until 1942; Reverend

1 Father Thomas O'Neill, from 1942 until 1970; Father Bernard
2 LaBonte from 1970 until 1987; Father Donald Sederwall, from
3 1987 until 1993; Father Robert Porter, from 1993 until 1997;
4 Father Donald Cunningham, from 1997 until 2000; and Father
5 Don Roberts, the current pastor of St. Patrick Church; and
6 WHEREAS, St. Patrick Church has stood as a part of the
7 City of Pana for the last seventy-five years and will
8 continue to be an important part of the City of Pana well
9 into the future; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate the congregation at St. Patrick Church in
13 Pana, Illinois, as they celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of
14 their church; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the people of St. Patrick Church in Pana,
17 Illinois.
