1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are saddened to learn
3 of the death of Mrs. Viola L. Metzger Kotva of Edwardsville
4 on January 7, 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, She was born on September 3, 1910 in Brighton,
6 the daughter of Martin R. and Bertha Schroeder Fuser; she was
7 a 1932 graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in
8 Alton; she attended the University of Minnesota, Southern
9 Illinois University, the University of Illinois, and St.
10 Louis University, receiving her public health nursing
11 certificate in 1948; and
12 WHEREAS, She married Elmer L. Metzger in June of 1935; he
13 died on March 2, 1944; she married Charles T. Kotva in June
14 of 1967; he died in September of 1976; and
15 WHEREAS, In 1992, she was awarded the Ruth Sanders
16 Humanitarian Award by the Illinois Association of School
17 Nurses for distinguished leadership, service, and achievement
18 and was honored by the Bethalto School District for 50 years
19 of service; and
20 WHEREAS, She was an active member of Eden United Church
21 of Christ in Edwardsville; and
22 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family
23 and friends, especially her sons and their wives, Martin R.
24 and Dorothy Metzger and Thomas N. and Ruth Metzger; her
25 sister, Florence Kolb; her grandsons, Brian and Darren
26 Metzger; and her great-granddaughter, Brittany Metzger;
27 therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
30 and regret the death of Mrs. Viola L. Metzger Kotva and
31 extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends; and

2 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Mrs. Viola L. Metzger Kotva.
