1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Clara Bell Holley of Chicago on January 21,
4 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, She was the fourth child born to Rosa Lee and
6 Edwin Henry; she graduated from high school in Macon,
7 Georgia, and received an associate's degree from Paine
8 College in Augusta, Georgia; and
9 WHEREAS, She later moved to Washington, D.C., where she
10 worked in the Pentagon; she received a degree in music at
11 Howard University; and
12 WHEREAS, She then moved to Chicago, where she was an
13 auditor at Speigel's Corporation; from there she worked for
14 the Board of Education until she retired; and
15 WHEREAS, She was a member of the Holy Name of Mary
16 Church; she was a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver
17 Ladies Auxiliary, the 4th Degree Adelle Stadeker Chapter #12,
18 the Ladies Guild, the A.C.C.W., and was a lecturer and a lay
19 minister; and
20 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family
21 and friends, especially her husband, Charles Holley; her son,
22 Keith; her daughter, Karen Holley-Britton; her grandson,
23 Justyn Britton; her son-in-law, Johnny Britton; her brother,
24 William Henry; and her sisters, Bertha Logue and Thelma
25 Burke; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
28 and regret the death of Clara Bell Holley and extend our
29 sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it
30 further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to her husband, Charles Holley.
