1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the recent death of Joseph Migala of Antioch; and
4 WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Mr. Migala went to Poland with
5 his mother when he was a small child; he was educated in
6 Europe and held a master's degree in economics; and
7 WHEREAS, He was a leader of a Polish academic
8 organization of students with peasant ancestry and was an
9 officer with the Union of Royal Youth; in the province of
10 Kracow, he was secretary of the Polish Peasant Party; and
11 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Polish infantry and was
12 captured by the Germans, but escaped and joined the Polish
13 underground; he co-founded ROCH, the underground unit of the
14 Polish Peasant Party; and
15 WHEREAS, After the war, he was executive director of
16 Spolem Regional Agricultural Cooperative in Kracow, but was
17 driven out of Poland by the Communists; and
18 WHEREAS, He served as a human rights advocate by his work
19 with his wife, Estelle, on WCEV-AM, retiring in 1980; that
20 year, he returned to Poland to finish a doctorate in history;
21 and
22 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
23 and friends, especially his wife, Estelle; his daughters,
24 Barbara Holtzinger, Krista Dinges, Lucyna Migala, and Diana
25 Maria; his son, George; 6 grandchildren; and 5
26 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
29 and regret the death of Joseph Migala and extend our sincere
30 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to his widow, Estelle Migala.
