1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The death of former State Representative
3 Lawrence Murphy of Aurora brings much sadness to the members
4 of the Senate; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Aurora on April 16, 1917, the son
6 of the late Delia and John Murphy, Sr,. and died on Sunday,
7 January 24, 1999; and
8 WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army, he was
9 wounded at the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and received
10 the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for heroism along with
11 many other citations; and
12 WHEREAS, He served from 1977 to 1983 in the Illinois
13 House of Representatives, advocating pro-labor stances,
14 particularly on workers' compensation bills; and
15 WHEREAS, He retired from Austin-Western after 33 years of
16 service; he was a member of St. Joseph Church, the D.A.V.,
17 the American Legion, the V.F.W., the Amvets, United Steel
18 Workers of America Local #3672, and the 509th Parachute
19 Infantry, U.S. Army; and
20 WHEREAS, The passing of Lawrence Murphy will be deeply
21 felt by her devoted family and friends, especially his wife,
22 Betty; his son, Thomas; his daughter, Lynn; his grandsons,
23 Timothy, Kevin, and Jon; and his brother, Francis "Pat"
24 Murphy; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our most
27 sincere condolences to the family of Lawrence Murphy, a
28 respected colleague who will be missed; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to his widow, Betty Murphy.
