1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Lana Hostetler of Springfield, a former
4 president of the National Association for the Education of
5 Young Children and a longtime activist for children's issues
6 and human rights, on Thursday, February 4, 1999; and
7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hostetler was active in the civil rights
8 movement in the 1960s and in the women's rights movement in
9 the 1970s; and
10 WHEREAS, An early childhood professor in Springfield
11 since 1970, she was drawn into child-care issues as she saw
12 women struggle to balance work and family; and
13 WHEREAS, As president of the Illinois Association for the
14 Education of Young Children, she taught legislators and the
15 public the importance of quality child care; she worked hard
16 to get a subsidized pre-kindergarten program serving children
17 at risk for school failure; and
18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hostetler was president of the National
19 Association for the Education of Young Children from 1990
20 through 1992 and continued to teach full time at Lincoln Land
21 Community College; since 1992, she has also served as a
22 lobbyist for the Illinois Federation for Human Rights; and
23 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family
24 and friends, especially her son, Brendan; her mother, Eva
25 Lambert; and her brothers, Edward D. and Charles W. Lambert;
26 therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
29 and regret the death of Lana Hostetler and extend our sincere
30 condolences to her family and friends; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Lana Hostetler.
