1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Annie Mae Tobias of Liberty, Mississippi, on
4 February 17, 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, She was born on October 22, 1917, and committed
6 her life to community service and volunteerism; and
7 WHEREAS, She was an original founder, organizer, and
8 member of the National Association for the Advancement of
9 Colored People in Amite County, Mississippi; and
10 WHEREAS, She was a devoted administrator and teacher for
11 the Head Start Program; and
12 WHEREAS, Annie Mae Tobias was a loving mother of 11
13 children, 31 grandchildren, including Walden Mabry, President
14 of the Chicago Far South NAACP Branch, 36
15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; and
16 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family
17 and many friends; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
20 and regret the death of Annie Mae Tobias and extend our
21 sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it
22 further
23 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to the family of Annie Mae Tobias.
