1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the recent death of James Lee Lewis of Chicago; and
4 WHEREAS, He was born in Lexington, Mississippi, on June
5 22, 1911, the son of Tom and Eliza Lewis; he was a graduate
6 of Booker T. Washington in Memphis, Tennessee; and
7 WHEREAS, He moved to Chicago as a young adult to pursue a
8 law career; the Depression prevented him from realizing his
9 dream and, after many years with the railroad system, he
10 pursued his second career in real estate; and
11 WHEREAS, He was baptized into the Catholic faith and
12 became a Knight of Peter Claver; he was a member of the
13 Chicago Assembly Club; and
14 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
15 and friends, especially by his wife, Agnes; his daughters,
16 Sandra Walden and Diane McGehee; his son, Michael James
17 Lewis; his son-in-law, Frank McGehee; his grandchildren,
18 Constance Walden DiPreta, Frank Eugene MeGehee III, Matthew
19 James McGehee, and Michael Maurice McGehee; his brothers,
20 Ulysses Lewis and Arnett Lewis; and his sister, Melvina
21 Wilson; therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
23 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
24 and regret the death of James Lee Lewis and extend our
25 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it
26 further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to his widow, Agnes Lewis.
