1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of George Calvin "Prof" Reid, who
4 recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid was born in Mt. Vernon,
6 Illinois, on August 8, 1916; his parents were George Hoster
7 and Naomi Glenn Reid; on August 21, 1936 he married Gertrude
8 L. Ross in Carlinville; and
9 WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid was the music teacher at
10 Carlinville High School for 35 years before his retirement in
11 1975; Mr. Reid was the band director and a member of the
12 Carlinville Muni Band; and
13 WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid was a member of Ss. Mary &
14 Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the
15 Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412, Alpha Xi Fraternity, and the
16 Illinois Music Educators Association; he was a charter and
17 lifetime member of the Carlinville Lions Club; he was active
18 in the Boy Scouts of America, and received the Silver Beaver
19 Award in 1955; he was the first Eagle Scout in Carlinville,
20 Troop #62; and
21 WHEREAS, George Calvin Reid is survived by his sons, Dr.
22 James Reid, John Reid, Jerry Reid, George Reid, Ed Reid, Bob
23 Reid, Ken Reid, Dr. David Reid, and Don Reid; his daughters,
24 Margie Oftedahl, Anne Dowland, Ruth LeVoy, Judy Hussey, Carol
25 Miller, and Susan Weber; his 54 grandchildren; his 24
26 great-grandchildren; his sister, Florence Wentrcek; and three
27 nieces; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
30 family and friends, the death of George Calvin Reid of
31 Carlinville, Illinois; may they find comfort in this time of

2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of George Calvin Reid.
