1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of
4 Kenneth Tyler, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler was born in Chicago, Illinois, on
6 October 28, 1954; his parents were Arthur and Ruby Lemmons
7 Tyler; he attended Chicago Public Schools and graduated from
8 DuSable High School in 1973; in 1972 he was a member of the
9 DuSable football team champions; and
10 WHEREAS, In 1983 he married Cynthia Jones; together they
11 were the parents of Candeca M'Blia, Malcolm Marcus, and Kwame
12 Ture (named after Mr. Tyler's friend); and
13 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler was baptized and accepted Christ
14 at Greater Walters Church; and
15 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler attended Luther College in
16 Decorah, Iowa, where he graduated in 1977 with majors in
17 Black Studies, Arts, and Education; he was an accomplished
18 artist and was art director for Kumba Magazine, published by
19 the Luther College Black Student Union; he played football
20 for 4 years of college, served as president of the Black
21 Student Union, and joined the All African Peoples
22 Revolutionary Party (AAPRP), which was founded by Kwame Ture
23 (Stokely Carmichael), a close friend of Kenneth Tyler, who
24 recently preceded him in death; Mr. Tyler remained as an
25 organizer of the AAPRP until his death; and
26 WHEREAS, In 1978 Kenneth Tyler went to work as a student
27 teacher at East Waterloo High School; he went on to full time
28 employment with Lutheran General Hospital in 1979, where he
29 worked with medical supplies; in January of 1999 he was
30 transferred to Christ Hospital; and
31 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler began attending Calvary Missionary

1 Baptist Church two years ago, where he participated in the
2 Sunday School program; he also served as coach of the Pee
3 Wee/Small Fry Basketball Team at Calvary Complex for the last
4 year; and
5 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler has worked for the
6 African-American people for over twenty years; he is
7 remembered by those that knew him as someone who put others'
8 needs ahead of his own; he worked with young people and
9 encouraged them to work for the people, as well as reminding
10 them of the importance of education; and
11 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler is survived by his wife, Cynthia;
12 his daughters, Tomocha (Terrance) Coleman, and Candeca; his
13 son, Malcolm; his father, Arthur (Geraldine) Tyler; his
14 sisters, Margaret "Mickey" Kim Newell, Patricia Wilson,
15 Stevenia Brown, and Alana Tyler; his brothers, David "Toby"
16 Tyler, Arthur Tyler, and Jeremy Tyler; "Mom" Julia and "Pops"
17 Willie Jones; his sister-in-law Teresa Jones; his
18 brothers-in-law, Willie (Angel) Jones, Warren (Erika) Jones,
19 Kris (Lisa) Jones, Darnell (Angie) Jones, and DeShawn Jones;
20 his aunts, Ann Hill, Jewel Jones, Mary Tyler, Alice Jones,
21 Emma Tell, and Margaret Ann Shaver; his uncles, Robert
22 Lemmons, Willie (Mary Jean) Tyler, Walter Jones, James
23 (Mabel) Jones, and David (Aretha) Williams; his
24 granddaughter, Shianne Coleman; and many nieces, nephews,
25 cousins, and friends; and
26 WHEREAS, Kenneth Tyler was preceded in death by his
27 mother, Ruby; his son, Kwame; and his brother, Paul Wilson;
28 therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
31 his family and friends, the death of Kenneth Tyler of
32 Chicago, Illinois; may all that knew him find peace at this

1 time of need; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Kenneth Tyler.
