1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of
4 Lt. James L. O'Neill of the Chicago Police Department, who
5 passed away on May 15, 1999; and
6 WHEREAS, Lt. James O'Neill, Star #565, began his career
7 with the Chicago Police Department on February 22, 1971,
8 serving in the 20th and 18th districts; Officer O'Neill was
9 promoted to Lieutenant on March 14, 1988; for the past 8
10 years he worked in the 25th District; and
11 WHEREAS, Lt. O'Neill served as the President of the
12 Chicago Police Lieutenant's Association P.B.P.A. #156; Lt.
13 O'Neill was an aggressive labor leader and published many
14 articles regarding labor; he was instrumental in the passage
15 of the Illinois Law Enforcement Collective Bargaining bill;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, Lt. James O'Neill is survived by his friend,
18 Sgt. Maureen Ziegenhorn C.P.D., and his sister, Mary Jo
19 Williamson; he was preceded in death by his parents, James
20 Leo and Marguerite; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
22 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish the family
23 and friends of Lt. James O'Neill comfort in this time of
24 loss; the Chicago Police Department has truly lost one of its
25 finest; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to Maureen Ziegenhorn and the Chicago Police
28 Department, 25th District.
