1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Gerald Leon Lane, mayor of Sullivan, on
4 Friday, October 8, 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Lane, a Moultrie County native, was serving
6 his fifth term as mayor; he also served two terms as
7 Sullivan's city commissioner; and
8 WHEREAS, He was born in Moultrie County on January 17,
9 1926, the son of Walter and Oleta Waggoner Lane; he served in
10 the Air Force during World War II; and
11 WHEREAS, He graduated from the Missouri Auctioneer
12 School, and was an auctioneer for 45 years; he owned Citizens
13 Abstract Company in Sullivan for 25 years, and was a licensed
14 real estate agent; and
15 WHEREAS, He was a member of State and national auctioneer
16 associations; he also was associated with American Legion
17 Post 68, the George A. Sontel Masonic Lodge 764 and the Ansar
18 Temple, the Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of
19 Springfield, and the First Christian Church in Sullivan; and
20 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
21 and friends, especially his wife, Evelyn; his sons, Jerry,
22 Greg, Doug, Jeff, and Scott; his daughters-in-law, Jan,
23 Jennette, Theresa, Karen, and Selena; his grandchildren,
24 Chris, Jason, Jessica, Abbey, Stephanie, Eric, Ryan, Blake,
25 Brett, Dustin, Jenny, Kyler, Chris, and Jordan; his brother,
26 James; and his sister, Lorene Harris; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
29 and regret the death of Gerald Leon Lane and extend our
30 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it
31 further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to his widow, Evelyn Lane.
