1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 extend their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of
4 Paul Long of Jerseyville, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Paul Long was born in Jerseyville on February
6 15, 1919; his parents were Alma and Mary Holker Long; on
7 February 16, 1946 he married Nettie Ferris at the First
8 Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville; and
9 WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from Jerseyville High
10 School, Paul Long began his service with the United States
11 Army, seeing combat in World War II; he returned to
12 Jerseyville and became a meat cutter after his discharge from
13 the Army; Mr. Long again served his country when he went
14 overseas to fight in the Korean War; and
15 WHEREAS, Paul Long returned to Jerseyville after the
16 Korean War and went to work for the WJBM-AM radio station in
17 Jerseyville, where he worked for 25 years; he also served on
18 the Jersey Community Board for 25 years; and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Long was a member of Jerseyville American
20 Legion Post 492, serving as commander from 1977 to 1980, 1989
21 to 1991, and again from 1993 to 1995; he served on the
22 American Legion Memorial Association and ran the kitchen for
23 25 years; Mr. Long was serving as sergeant at arms for the
24 legion burial team at the time of his passing; and
25 WHEREAS, Paul Long is survived by his wife, Nettie; his
26 daughter, Sharon Bayne; and his three grandsons, David, Dan,
27 and Chris Bayne; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
30 his family and friends, the death of Paul Long of
31 Jerseyville; may they find comfort in this time of loss; and

3 presented to the family of Paul Long.
