1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family of Michael
4 Francis Balmes, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Michael Francis Balmes was born in Libertyville,
6 Illinois, on May 22, 1946; and
7 WHEREAS, Michael Francis Balmes was a partner in the
8 family business, Balmes Flower Shop in North Chicago and
9 Gurnee; he was past president of the Illinois State Florist
10 Association and he was a recipient of their Life Achievement
11 Award; he was a past chairman of Florist Transworld Delivery
12 (FTD), District 5A-B; and he was a past president of the
13 North Chicago Rotary Club, the North Chicago Chamber of
14 Commerce, and the Gurnee Lions Club; and
15 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Partners in Progress for
16 the North Chicago Schools; he was an avid golfer, a sports
17 fan, and the softball coach for the Warren Township Girls
18 Softball League; and
19 WHEREAS, Michael Francis Balmes was a veteran of the
20 Vietnam War, where he served with the United States Air Force
21 in Thailand; and
22 WHEREAS, Michael Francis Balmes is survived by his wife,
23 Pam; his children, Jacob (Michele), Kathryn, and Anne; his
24 granddaughter, Guenevere; his parents, Wilford and Virginia
25 Balmes; his sisters, Kathleen Scott, Jeanne Balmes, and Julie
26 (Gary) Gehrig; his brothers, Peter (Robin) and Wilford
27 (Aleta); he is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and many
28 friends; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
31 all that knew him, the death of Michael Francis Balmes of

1 Gurnee, Illinois; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Michael Francis Balmes, along with
4 our sincere regards.
