1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, State Senator James F. "Jim" Rea, our esteemed
3 colleague from the 59th District in Christopher, has retired
4 from the General Assembly after ten years of distinguished
5 service; and
6 WHEREAS, Born in Mulkeytown on September 7, 1937, James
7 Rea graduated from the Christopher Community Schools; he
8 received special training at the National Training
9 Laboratories in Bethel, Maine; and received a Bachelor of
10 Science Degree in Animal Husbandry & Biological Services and
11 a Master of Science Degree in Agriculture Industry &
12 Community Development at Southern Illinois University in
13 Carbondale; and
14 WHEREAS, James Rea worked at the Agriculture Extension,
15 Southern Illinois University, the Community Action
16 Association in West Virginia, the Illinois Office of Economic
17 Opportunity, the Governor's Office of the State of Illinois,
18 and the Illinois Department of Conservation before being
19 elected to the State Senate in 1989; and
20 WHEREAS, During his tenure as a Senator, James Rea has
21 earned a reputation for his honesty and integrity; he served
22 on the Committees on Financial Institutions, Public Health
23 and Welfare, and Administrative Rules, and was a member of
24 the Advisory Council on Alcoholism and the Illinois Coal
25 Development Board; and
26 WHEREAS, James Rea is devoted to his wife Josephine; his
27 children, James A. Rea, D.M.D., and JoEllen Brayfield; and
28 his grandchildren, Steven and Sara Brayfield and Aaron and
29 Dalton Rea; and
30 WHEREAS, James Rea serves as a member of the Board of
31 Directors of the Banterra Bank of Christopher, the National

1 Association for Community Development, the Rural Sociological
2 Society, the National University Extension Association, the
3 Community Development Society, the Illinois Legislative
4 Sportsman's Caucus, and the Illinois Association of School
5 Boards; and
6 WHEREAS, He is also affiliated with the Lion's Club, the
7 Moose Lodge, the Elks Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners,
8 and the American Legion; and
9 WHEREAS, He has devoted his considerable talents to his
10 constituents and has received numerous awards and honors; and
11 WHEREAS, James Rea leaves an admirable record of public
12 service as his legacy, and he will be missed by his
13 colleagues and friends in the General Assembly; therefore, be
14 it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our
17 heartiest congratulations to James Rea as he retires from the
18 General Assembly and extend our best wishes for the future as
19 a Field Representative with the Secretary of State; and be it
20 further
21 RESOLVED, That we commend him on his service in the
22 Senate of the State of Illinois; and be it further
23 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to him with our admiration and appreciation.
