1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Bernard Starks of Chicago on Friday, January
4 7, 2000; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on March 18, 1924, the
6 second of fourteen children born to the late Decatur and
7 Caroline Starks; and
8 WHEREAS, He married Shirley Robinson in 1942 and to this
9 union were born five children; one child, Bernadette,
10 preceded him in death along with seven brothers and two
11 sisters; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Starks was a licensed barber and practiced
13 his trade for many years; he also worked for Kensington Steel
14 and later for Knickerbocker Roofing Company until his
15 retirement in 1988 after twenty-one years of employment; and
16 WHEREAS, A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his
17 passing will be deeply felt by his family and friends,
18 especially his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Sheila Hardy; his
19 sons, Ronnie, Bernard Jr., and Bruce; his son-in-law, Ervin
20 Hardy; his daughters-in-law, Lillian, Jeanette, and Cynthia;
21 his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and James Holmes,
22 Barbara Ann and Donald Burkes, and Vera Woodbury; his
23 brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Sandra Starks and
24 Gregory and Ernestine Starks; his twenty-one grandchildren;
25 and his fourteen great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
28 and regret the death of Bernard Starks and extend our sincere
29 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to his widow, Shirley Starks.
