1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 extend their sincere condolences to the family of John D.
4 Kettman, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, John D. Kettman was born September 4, 1920; he
6 graduated from Gage Park Grammar School and Lindbloom High
7 School, where he participated in wrestling; he was a veteran
8 of World War II, serving in the Air Force and spending 18
9 months as a Prisoner of War after his plane was shot down
10 over Belgium; and
11 WHEREAS, In 1948 John D. Kettman and Lorraine Bingham
12 were united in marriage; his wife had also served her country
13 as a WAC for three years; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Kettman and his family moved to Palos Park
15 in 1951; He and his brother, Mike, helped their father build
16 a house that led Mr. Kettman into his career as a carpenter
17 and contractor; and
18 WHEREAS, John D. Kettman had been a member of the Palos
19 Fire Department District since 1955; the department started
20 small but today consists of 34 men serving the community; and
21 WHEREAS, In March of 1962 Mr. Kettman became the
22 Assistant Chief, and in January of 1969 he became Chief of
23 the Palos Fire Protection District; in April of 1986 he
24 retired after 31 years of service; he and his wife continued
25 to be the loving aunt and uncle to their nieces and nephews,
26 in addition to being active in the Presbyterian Church;
27 therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
30 all who knew this man who served his community faithfully,
31 the loss of Retired Fire Chief John D. Kettman of Palos Park,

1 Illinois; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of John D. Kettman.
