1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of the Honorable J. Lawrence Keshner of Alton on
4 Saturday, November 6, 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Alton on March 18, 1938, the son
6 of the late Charles J. and Margaret L. Keshner; and
7 WHEREAS, A 1962 graduate of St. Louis University Law
8 School, he was a special agent in the Federal Bureau of
9 Investigation; upon returning to Alton, he entered into a
10 private law firm practice; and
11 WHEREAS, Judge Keshner served as an assistant state's
12 attorney in Madison County, and was the attorney for the City
13 of Alton; in 1989, he was appointed as an associate judge in
14 Madison County and was elected a Madison County Circuit Judge
15 in 1996, where he served until the time of his death; and
16 WHEREAS, Judge Keshner served on the board of governors
17 for the Illinois Bar Association, was on the board for Saint
18 Anthony's Health Center, the American Heart Association, the
19 American Lung Association, and was a member of the Knights of
20 Columbus; he was involved in numerous civic organizations;
21 and
22 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
23 and friends, especially his wife, Mary Margaret; his sons and
24 daughters-in-law, Joe Keshner, Michael and Stacy Keshner, and
25 Charlie and Erin Keshner; his daughters and son-in-law, Maria
26 and John Sommerhof, Ann Keshner, and Margaret Keshner; his
27 grandchild, Margaret Jocelyn Sommerhof; and his brother,
28 Terry Keshner; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
31 and regret the death of the Honorable J. Lawrence Keshner and

1 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
2 be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to his widow, Mary Margaret Keshner.
