1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Clem McPhee, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Clem McPhee was a native of Newton,
6 Massachusetts; he served in the South Pacific during World
7 War II; he spent time on a wooden sub-chaser, eventually
8 becoming commander of the ship; and
9 WHEREAS, Clem McPhee worked for the Wm. Wrigley Jr.
10 Company from 1937 to 1985, serving the last 31 years in
11 promotions; in the 1970s he received the National Candy
12 Wholesalers Man of the Year award for his efforts in
13 converting field sales to telemarketing sales; he also led
14 Wrigley in the push to use the bar code on their products;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, Clem McPhee was the first professional
17 coordinator of the Northbrook Shopping Plaza Merchants
18 Association; he taught "55 Alive" for the American
19 Association of Retired Persons; and he was a gourmet cook,
20 who prepared meals for his family and students of a
21 Northbrook Park District cooking course; and
22 WHEREAS, Clem McPhee led the Northbrook Park District
23 Park Larks, the senior citizens singing troupe; he wrote,
24 produced, and directed 13 consecutive shows for the Chicago
25 chapter of WAIF, the adoption rights organization founded by
26 actress Jane Russell; he wrote, produced, and directed 25
27 consecutive shows of the old Shore Club Follies, four PTO
28 shows for Deerfield High School, and four sold-out musicals
29 for the old Northbrook Service Club in the 1950s; and
30 WHEREAS, Clem McPhee appeared several times a week as
31 part of the group, "Two Guys and a Gal," a music trio with

1 fellow performers Cathy Wilson and Phil Morreale; Clem McPhee
2 could be seen in his gold-trimmed tuxedo, piano key hat, and
3 a cane with an attached bicycle horn; and
4 WHEREAS, Clem McPhee is survived by his children, Marnie
5 McPhee, Jon McPhee, and Betsy McInnis; and his five
6 grandchildren; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 all that knew him, the death of Clem McPhee of Northbrook,
10 Illinois; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Clem McPhee.
