1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family, friends, and
4 fans of Orville Eugene "Gene" Bell, who recently passed away;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Orville Eugene Bell was born in Decatur,
7 Illinois, on January 17, 1927, the son of Orville and Eva N.
8 Blickenstaff Bell; he married Janet Canull Jones on February
9 14, 1981; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Bell was an organist with the United States
11 Navy during World War II; he was a member of Elks Lodge 401,
12 the Moose Lodge, and the American Legion; he was a former
13 sales manager with WAND-TV and a former owner of the
14 Washington Inn in Clinton; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Bell was well known around Central Illinois
16 as a pianist and organist; he performed with Jack Plotts at
17 the Elks Club where they were known as the Gene and Jack
18 Show; he started performing in the 1940s in area showrooms
19 and saloons; he was a member of the Dixielanders, who
20 performed in the 1960s at The Winery in Decatur; and
21 WHEREAS, Orville Eugene "Gene" Bell is survived by his
22 wife, Janet; his mother, Eva; his daughter, Debbie Tietz; his
23 sons, John Bell, and his wife, Charlotte, Steve Bell, and his
24 wife, Beverly, and Todd Jones-James; his sister, Doris
25 Morganthaler and her husband, Walter; his four grandsons and
26 his great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
29 Orville Eugene "Gene" Bell and extend our best wishes to all
30 that knew him; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
