1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Dr. Julian W. Buser of Belleville, Illinois, who recently
5 passed away; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Buser was born in Seneca, Kansas on
7 January 21, 1917; he was a graduate of the University of
8 Witchita, Kansas and the Marquette University School of
9 Medicine in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; after an internship at the
10 Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio he entered the
11 United States Army Medical Corps; he served as a medical
12 officer with the 229th General Hospital in France, the chief
13 medical officer of the U.S.S. General D.E. Aultman, a medical
14 officer with the 35th Station Hospital in Nagoya, Japan, and
15 was the chief medical officer of the Dispensary Unit GHQ in
16 Tokyo, Japan; he served from 1944 to 1946, leaving the
17 service as a captain; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Buser was a resident in
19 gastroenterology at the University of Chicago Clinics from
20 1946 to 1950, and served as a clinical instructor at the
21 University of Illinois Research Hospital in Chicago before
22 moving to Belleville; and
23 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Buser served the metro-east area as a
24 specialist in internal medicine from 1951 until his
25 retirement in 1992; he was responsible for the introduction
26 of the fields of gastroenterology and endoscopy to the
27 metro-east area; he was senior member of Buser, Irwin,
28 Tramme, and Stewart, L.L.C.; he served on the staff of all
29 area hospitals; after his retirement he served as the
30 physician member of the elder abuse committee of the
31 Southwest Illinois Visiting Nurses Association; and
32 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Buser was the president of the St.

1 Clair County Medical Society in 1972; from 1976 to 1986 he
2 held various positions with the Illinois State Medical
3 Society, including county delegate, trustee, executive board
4 member, member of the insurance board of directors, and
5 speaker of the house of Delegates; he was a fellow in the
6 American College of Physicians, and a member of the American
7 Medical Associates, American Society of Gastro-Intestinal
8 Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the
9 American Gastroscopic Society, and the Society of Internal
10 Medicine; and
11 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Buser was an avid golfer, and the
12 club champion at St. Clair Country Club; he enjoyed reading,
13 discussing philosophy, history, geography, and theology with
14 others; he had a baritone singing voice and enjoyed singing
15 all types of music; and he was a member of Blessed Sacrament
16 Catholic Church; and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. Julian Buser is survived by his loving wife,
18 Dorothy; his daughters, Julia Buser Welch and Patricia
19 Goller; his sons, Paul (Cindy) Buser, Lawrence (Lisa) Buser,
20 Stephen (Clare) Buser, and Robert (Helen Silverblatt, M.D.)
21 Buser; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Muma, Bernadette Kendzora,
22 and Anita Skach; his brother, Albertus Buser; his
23 grandchildren, William, James, and Douglas Welch, Peter,
24 Katee, Hannah, William, Drew, Tyler, Richelle, Aaron, Elan,
25 and Sarah Buser, and Anna and Nicolas Goller; his
26 step-granddaughters, Amy Blagg and Michelle Catone; his
27 step-great-granddaughter, Sydney Catone; and many nieces,
28 nephews, and dear friends; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
31 all that knew and loved him, the death of Dr. Julian Buser;
32 and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Dr. Julian Buser.
