1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Lesly Simmons, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Lesly Simmons grew up in Greenville, Mississippi
6 where he attended Sacred Heart School; he attended and served
7 as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Church; and
8 WHEREAS, In 1945 he joined the Armed Forces; after his
9 tour of duty he returned to Mississippi and attended Tugaloo
10 College; while attending college he met and won the heart of
11 Bessie L. Mott and on December 22, 1950 united in marriage
12 with her; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Simmons moved his family to Chicago and
14 united with St. Leo Church and School; Mr. Simmons became a
15 physics and chemistry teacher in the Chicago public schools,
16 and then went to work for the Chicago Housing Authority as a
17 manager; and
18 WHEREAS, Lesly Simmons enjoyed many things, including
19 music, good food, photography, laughter, travel, science, and
20 spending time with his family and friends; and
21 WHEREAS, The passing of Lesly Simmons will be felt by all
22 that knew him, especially his loving wife, Bessie; his
23 children, Carmen and Cynthia; his grandchildren, Eugene and
24 Duane; his sister, Doris; his Uncle Eugene; his Aunt Sweetie;
25 his nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
28 all that knew and loved him, the death of Lesly Simmons; and
29 be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
