1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Hazel Rutherford, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Hazel Rutherford was born in Peoria, Illinois,
6 on September 14, 1916; her parents were W.H. and Emma Getz
7 Sommer; on September 21, 1937 she married William L.
8 Rutherford; and
9 WHEREAS, Hazel Rutherford and her husband were
10 responsible for the Forest Park Home Foundation, originally
11 dedicated to a home for the elderly and disabled; in 1963
12 they began buying land for parks; and
13 WHEREAS, The parks that Hazel and William Rutherford
14 built include Sommer Park, Robinson Park, Leslie Rutherford
15 Park, North Bluff Wildlife Preserve, Grand View Park,
16 Schmoeger Park, Safety Town, and the Wildlife Prairie Park
17 near Peoria; and
18 WHEREAS, Hazel Rutherford was responsible for the design
19 of the buildings at the Wildlife Prairie Park and was a
20 volunteer at the park gift shop; and
21 WHEREAS, The passing of Hazel Rutherford will be felt by
22 all that knew her, especially her husband, William L.
23 Rutherford; her sons, Dr. William (Jan) Rutherford and Dr.
24 Ladd (Bonnie) Rutherford; her six grandchildren; and her
25 sister, Ruth Clark; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
28 all that knew and were touched by her, the death of Hazel
29 Rutherford; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
